Income through Affiliate Marketing

Income through Affiliate Marketing

Income through Affiliate Marketing

The industry has four core players: the merchant (also known as ‘retailer’ or ‘brand’), the network (that contains offers for the affiliate to choose from and also takes care of the payments), the publisher (also known as ‘the affiliate’), and the customer. A business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts.

Affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission by promoting other company’s products.

You find a product you like, promote it to others, and earn a piece of the profit for each sale that you make.

You’re happy because you earned a commission…

The company is happy because they have a new sale from a customer that they might not have normally been able to reach…

And the customer is happy because they learned about a product from you that will hopefully fulfill a need or desire.

The beauty of affiliate marketing is that you don’t have to invest the time and effort to create a product to sell. You can begin selling something as an affiliate as soon as you have a platform to sell it on.

Content Focus

I. Determining Content Focus

Content needs to have a focus in terms of the topics you plan to cover and the tone it will take. Here are some pointers for determining that focus.

Stimulate engagement. It could be educational, entertaining, inspirational, or promotional. Likely it should contain elements of all four.

Demonstrate knowledge and thought leadership. One way to garner trust is by establishing yourself or your company as an expert.

Consistent with the mission and culture of your business. You don’t want content that is out of step with your company’s character, image, and personality — it would come across as not authentic.

A commonly accepted practice is to use the 70/20/10 rule.

70 percent of content should focus on your customers’ interests and needs. This can be accomplished through how-to tips, answers to frequently asked questions, and links to helpful resources. Ask yourself, “Would I find this content helpful?” If the answer is yes, then it’s probable others will too.

20 percent of content should be “OPC” — other people’s content. That mandates a willingness to allow user-generated content on social channels you manage, such as a Facebook page. This gives your customers a sense of ownership in the conversation and serves to foster trust.

10 percent of content should be promotional. If you are willing to focus 90 percent of your content on others, then, hopefully, no one will complain when 1/10th of it calls attention to your products and services.

II. Determining Content Type

Depending on the channel, social media content can take many forms: blog posts, tweets, status updates, contests, quizzes, poll questions, infographics, videos, and photos.

Due Pinterest and Instagram, social media has become increasingly visual. So the use of video and photo images should be a major consideration. Not only does it appeal to different learning styles, but photos and video make it easier for customers and prospects to get a feel for who you are and what you do.

III. Determining Posting Frequency

After you have decided on the content’s focus and type, determine how often you can post updates. Here are a couple of tips.

Post at the optimal time. By this I mean post on the days and times when you are most likely to receive responses in the form of Likes, comments and shares. Many retailers find that posting between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. works best. Edge Rank Checker is a

WordPress Dominance

On the WordPress Blog, on August 19th, in their State of the Word post, WordPress announced some facts about usage of their platform.

First, 147,000 of the top one million sites on the web are using WordPress, up from 85,000 not long ago. In addition, and this is more important for us, “22 out of every 100 new active domains in the US are running WordPress.” The reason for the growing popularity of WordPress is that it’s the easy platform to install and manage.

A basic WordPress blog can be up in minutes. Add a different theme and some plugins and its ready to go and SEO friendly. If you don’t want to set it up yourself, you can have it done by someone for no more than a few hundred dollars. It wasn’t long ago that a decent site was in the $2,000 dollar range. Now, we’re talking $200 or less. Bid it out on ODesk or Elance, or if you want to go local use Craigslist.

Using WordPress doesn’t change the process of market research and keyword research. It just makes it easy to set up the site and publish and manage your content. It also allows you to use pages or posts when publishing content. For more on that, visit our post WordPress – Posts or Pages – Which is Best?

Now, a few hundred dollars is what you will pay for the set-up, plugins and a basic theme for your WordPress site. For $200-300 more you can have a custom template created to meet your custom needs. To get an idea of what can be done with WordPress, visit Groupmind.

Another thing about WordPress is that if there are so many sites using the platform, that your site visitors will be accustomed to the navigation. This factor makes usability decision less of an issue. You pick the design and WordPress will allow you to use, one column, 2 column left, 2 column right, 3 column, and / or top menus for navigation. It’s a very elegant and visitor friendly platform.

WordPress is working on HTML5 compatibility. WordPress is open source and the platform itself is free. The platform is constantly enhanced and improved and there’s no danger you site will be on an obsolete platform.

Google Webmaster Tools Guide

Google Webmaster Tools Guide

Google Webmaster Tools Guide

If you don’t already have a Google account to access Webmaster Tools, create one. Then simply click on “Add a Site” on the Webmaster Tools home page to start the process. Every domain, sub-domain and TLD — top level domain, the part after the period, such as .com, .net, .org — needs to be added and verified individually. For example, flourish.co.in, www.flourish.co.in, and seocompany.flourish.co.in are all separate sites in Google Webmaster’s eyes, regardless of whether they contain separate content.

Once the sites are added, the sites can be verified several different ways. Click the “Verify” button next to each site, choose a verification method, and follow the directions. Meta tag and file upload are the two most common methods, and both require access to post or modify files at the root of the site.

Note that just “adding a site” gives zero access to data. The verification step is critical to actually using Webmaster Tools.

Tips for Google web master tools

The first thing to remember is that everything you see is temporary and most data is shown on a rolling 30-day basis. You can change date ranges on some charts, but the range only allows about 35 days. Consequently, you cannot compare data month over month or year over year — or compare data from before and after an algorithm change, for example — unless you’re regularly saving the data in Google Webmaster Tools to your own hard drive. For my SEO clients, I do this monthly in tandem with my regular monthly reporting.

Most charts have a download button, but some charts have two. Buttons that say “Download this Table” will download all of the available data for that report in a CSV format. Buttons that say “Download Chart Data” will download only the data shown in the chart. Take a screengrab of charts that don’t allow downloads, so at least the visual trends will be available for comparison even if the data can’t be manipulated.

Google developed its Webmaster Tools to use the same navigational cues as a regular website. If something is blue, you can click it and get more detail. Mouse over charts to see individual data points. Click the question marks for definitions and help.

Once verified and logged in, Webmaster Tools’ home page features a dashboard of messages, crawl, traffic, and sitemap data. Pay careful attention to the messages section. If Google has detected malware, suspicious activity, a lot of new redirects or other types of behavior consistent with a site that has been hacked or is violating Webmaster guidelines, Google may warn you in the messages section. If the warning is expected, such as an alert about high numbers of redirects when you just changed URLs on a section of the site, then don’t worry about the message. If it’s unexpected, however, definitely look into the root cause of the message.

Google also places “Crawl Errors” on the dashboard. Google reports five different kinds of URL errors and three types of site errors. Don’t get too hung up on a few errors — there are often good reasons for pages to give a 404 error and occasional 500 errors are commonplace. However, if error numbers spike unexpectedly, investigate the cause with your IT team.

The “Search Queries” report is one of the biggest reasons to register for Google Webmaster Tools. The dashboard offers a snapshot of the report, showing organic queries, rankings, impressions and clicks over the last 30 days. Clicking through the snapshot will reveal a more detailed report. This is a fantastic report and will likely be your first stop on a regular basis.

Lastly, the dashboard displays some basic stats about XML sitemaps, including the number of URLs submitted via the XML sitemaps, the number of errors found at those URLs and the number of indexed pages. This section will be blank if you have not submitted an XML sitemap.

Health Tools Menu

Google’s statistics on your site’s health can be found in the “Health” menu. The crawl error and malware reports were already discussed in the dashboard section. The “Health” menu also contains a “Crawl Stats” page that shows charts of the number of pages crawled and kilobytes of data downloaded per day, as well as the amount of time spent downloading pages. Watch these charts for unexpected spikes or valleys that may indicate server load issues or the discovery of new sections of content.

The “Blocked URLs” page is a wealth of information regarding the site’s robots.txt file and the pages it allows and forbids crawlers to access. The first section shows the number of pages blocked by the robots.txt file. This should be watched for sudden increase or decrease. Below that, however, is a great tool for editing and testing the robots.txt file in a sandbox state before pushing it live. Make any edits desired in the first box to disallow or allow files or folders from being crawled, and then enter URLs to test against the robots.txt file in the second box. The tool will check the URLs entered against the commands in the robots.txt file and report whether each was allowed or disallowed, and which line in the robots.txt file triggered the allow or disallow. Before posting any changes to a robots.txt file, it’s an excellent idea to test the file with this tool first.

Google also allows users to “Fetch as Googlebot,” meaning that any URL pasted into the form will be crawled by the specified bot and displayed in this tool. This tool is useful when checking whether the site is treating users differently than search engine crawlers, and determining what the crawlers can index. It’s also useful to trigger a crawl or request indexation of individual pages, such as when a critical new page of content or redirect has been placed on a page and you want Google to discover it immediately.

The “Index Status” page charts a year’s worth of indexation data. The blue line indicates the total number of indexed pages, compared to the red line’s number of pages crawled. The green line shows pages that redirect or that the site owner has indicated should not be indexed. The orange line indicates the number of pages blocked by the robots.txt file. Logically, most sites will see a gradual upward trend as more pages of content or products are added. However, it may be desirable to see a decrease in pages indexed at times as well, especially when the site owner is actively focusing on removing duplicate content from the index.

Traffic Tools Menu

The “Traffic” menu contains the most valuable collection of Webmaster Tools that Google offers, including data on rankings, impressions, visits, internal and external links, and +1 activity. I addressed the “Search Queries” report in the dashboard section above.

Google Webmaster Tool’s linking reports are the largest source of accurate, free linking information available. Google will provide up to 1,000 rows of data for verified sites.

Google’s “Links to Your Site” report shows the 1,000 domains that have the most links to your verified site. The “Your Most Linked Content” report shows which pages on your site have attracted the most links. And the “How Your Data Is Linked” report shows anchor text used to link to your site, though it neglects to include any numerical data to indicate which anchor text is used most frequently.

The “Internal Links” page identifies which pages on your site are most frequently linked from your own site. This can be a very interesting report because internal links give search engines clues to which pages the sites’ owners consider most important. If many internal links are going to pages that are low priority and few are going to pages that are higher priority, the navigation may deserve another look.

Optimization Tools Menu

The “Optimization” menu houses tools and reports to help webmasters optimize their sites. I discussed the “Sitemaps” report in the dashboard section above.

When used with caution, the “Remove URLs” tool can be very effective at removing content of a sensitive nature that never should have been posted in the first place from Google’s index. For less urgent URL removal, use the robots.txt file or another method to deindex pages instead.

The “HTML Improvements” page lists the basic updates that should be made to a site’s title tags and meta descriptions. For ecommerce sites, this page may be frustrating because the content management system may not have the ability to optimize some pages on the site. Do what you can, note the ones you can’t resolve due to technology constraints, and move on.

The “Content Keywords” report shows the relative frequency of keyword usage and significance of keyword usage.

Configuration Tools Menu

The “Configuration” menu offers some basic site management settings, such as URL settings and user privileges. The “Settings” page lets users set the site’s geographic target, preferred domain and crawl rate. The “Sitelinks” page allows users to request removal of sitelinks, the links displayed in the search results under a site’s primary result, from certain pages. The “URL Parameters” page contains an interface to request that specific parameters, such as tracking parameters, be ignored by search engines. If a site is moving to a new domain, the “Change of Address” page offers information on how best to accomplish this and a handy form to indicate to where the site moved.

Site owners can also manage user privileges from the “Configuration” menu. The “Users” page allows site owners to add new users to Google Webmaster Tools and designate users as having restricted or full access. Think of restricted access as read-only access. Restricted users can see the data but can’t change settings that could potentially harm a site accidentally. Site owners can also assign “Associates,” users with permission to access other Google properties like YouTube, from Google Webmaster Tools.

Labs Tools Menu

Lastly we come to the “Labs” menu. These tools tend to be experimental or beta tools that Google is testing out before releasing them as part of the standard toolset. For example, if your site contains article or blog content by a verified author coded with the rel=author tags, Google shows “Author Stats” such as rankings, impressions and clicks for those pages. Other labs tools include Custom Search, Google Instant Previews, and Site Performance.

The best way to learn more about Google Webmaster Tools is to dive in and play with it. It’s free, relatively easy to verify, and packed with help topics and tips to speed you on your way.

Difference between SEO and Internet Marketing

Difference between SEO and Internet Marketing

Internet marketing involves the selling of the product and building reputation for both company and product, showing their products, services and the company itself in a good light, by advertising online using many different media like affiliates, social media, blogs, articles etc. SEO is what you do to a website to get it listed in a search engine. It forms the basis for internet marketing because its the first thing you do when you work with a clients’ website. SEO is mainly link building, keyword researching and optimizing a web page as well as setting out which keywords would be the most profitable in building links across the internet.

The SE in SEO stands for search engine. The search engines are a primary source for organic traffic but not the only source for traffic. There are a lot of sales pages to which Google hopes never to send traffic that still make sales.

A backlink is a signpost on the internet. While backlinks have traditionally been part of offsite SEO they also have the power to send direct traffic to your site. There are other methods of gaining traffic both online and offline that are unrelated to SEO.

In the offline sector signage with a link to a site have been used probably as long as there have been IM websites. Most print ads and TV ads include a web address. QR codes are gaining traction with the increased market penetration of smart phones.

Online there are several methods to gain traffic outside of SEO. Paid advertisements, including Adwords and banner advertising, are not strictly SEO but can generate very good traffic. Affiliate marketing can also be a source of significant traffic. If something posted on a site goes viral there can be massive traffic spikes.

Search engine traffic (generated by your SEO efforts) can be good or bad traffic. If you optimize the wrong words you may get a flood of information seekers but few conversions. What you need for success in IM is conversions. Some of the most successful Internet Marketers do not depend on search traffic to make their living, but are happy to accept the search traffic as gravy for their efforts. They do pay attention to SEO, but don’t depend on it to provide most of their traffic.

ABC of SEO

ABC’s of SEO

Follow the ABC's of search engine optimization:

Follow the ABC’s of search engine optimization:

A – Alt Tags

All images should include ALT tags. The ALT attribute in HTML is used for three main reasons: the ALT tag provides further details about an image or hyperlinked graphic, the ALT Tag enhances web access for individuals with vision impairments. The ALT tag will also help search engines discern what an image represents.

B – Bandwidth

Compress images and use a mixture of text with images to conserve bandwidth and help your webpages load quickly. Use good design techniques to reduce bandwidth and maintain a fast loading website. This will save both storage space and data transfer allowances.

C – Content Management System

Many businesses have adopted CMS systems for web design. Unfortunately these systems are not always designed to be search friendly.

D – Description

Each page of a website should contain a unique, and relevant description. The description should make use of relevant keywords and keyword phrases.

E – Error Page (404)

Use a custom 404 page to capture any traffic from mistyped URLs or abandoned web pages. Sometimes it takes a while for the search engines to catch up to abandoned pages, so they may send traffic to a web page that no longer exists. Use a custom 404 web page in order that you capture the traffic and provide visitors navigation options.

F – Fresh Content

Fresh content is the corner stone of search engine optimization. New content shows that a website is updated on a regular basis. Content is a critical part of search engine optimization. A website must contain both unique and fresh content to rank well.

G – Google

Google dominates other search engines, so it is important for webmasters to optimize pages in a way that will help the web page perform well in a Google search.

H – Header Tags / H1

Use H1 Tags in the HTML to emphasize keywords or sub-headings on a webpage.

I – Image Optimization

Images should be optimized for web pages. Use standard web formats and compress the images without compromising quality. It is important to specify the width and the height of your images in the HTML code. If the height and width of the image is not specified, the web browser will have to reposition the text once the pictures load, consuming more time.

J – Javascript

Avoid the use of javascript for navigation. Search engine spiders often have a difficult time following javascript links.

K – Keywords

Keywords are the hallmark of search engine optimization. Keywords should be integrated into the body of the website and the meta tags of the web page.

L -Link Building

Link building is an important aspect of SEO. In order for a website to generate organic ranking. Submit the website to large directories and niche portals to generate incoming links.

M – Meta Tags

Meta tags should be defined and included in all of the web page’s HTML header information. Each web page on a website should contain unique meta tags.

N – Navigation

Not only is it important to have a clear navigational structure for human visitors, but also one for search engine spiders which follow a website’s links to index the web page’s contents. Have a navigation structure that is viewable by both web visitors and search spiders.

O – Optimize

Optimization is a continuous process. Optimize the website and monitor web logs to determine the effectiveness of the changes that you have made.

P – PageRank

PageRank is one of the methods Google uses to determine the relevance or importance of a web page. PageRank is a vote, by all the other web pages on the Internet, about how important a Web page is. To raise PageRank, one must have a large number of incoming links from trusted sources.

Q – Quality Link

There is more to linking than just getting a large number of incoming links. The quality of the incoming links is important as well.

R – Robots.txt

Robots.txt files should be used to tell search engines what web pages should and should not be spidered.

S – Social Bookmarks and Social Networks

Social bookmarks and social networks can be using to build incoming link structure.

T – Title

All web pages within a website should contain unique title tags. Titles should include keywords and be descriptive in nature.

U – URLs

URLs are also part of search engine optimization. Using hyphenated keywords to name the sub-pages of a website has been known to play a role in search engine ranking.

V – Viral Marketing

Viral marketing is a marketing strategy that encourages people to pass along messages to others in order to generate added exposure. The viral piece is a self-propagating practice or pattern of Internet use that moves from person to person.

W – Web Design

Web design should not focus solely on aesthetics. The design should be done with search engine optimization in mind. X – XML XML is eXtensible Markup Language it is used as a standard to transfer data.

Y – Yahoo

Yahoo still has one of the best web directories. Be sure to manually submit your website to the Yahoo Directory.

SEO Tips for Goolge Places

SEO Tips for Goolge Places

seo tips for google places

SEO for your Google Places website landing page is not unlike any other page, in that the same techniques and best practices are used to maximize the visibility of the page. The only real change is the location is now just as important as the keywords.

Selecting your Website Landing Page for your Google Places Page

For all intents and purpose the Google Places page is where the information about your business is kept. Included in that information is your website address. The website address you enter(ed) is the website landing page we’ll be optimizing. For many businesses that will be the home page of the website — for larger businesses with multiple locations that should be an internal page of the website.

The decision here is determining whether more relevance should be put on product/services or location. If you are just selling locally then you have an easier task as you have only one option and that is to the home page of your website. If you have multiple locations in one city or nation or multiple countries then your strategy will be more far more complex and products become secondary to the Geo strategy.

Domain and URL Structure SEO for Your Google Places Landing Page

If you already have your domain then city/state keywords should occur in folder and page names when your landing page is an internal page (bigger multi location business).

Optimize Title,  Meta and Micro Data

Words in the Title element are weighted heavier (have more relevance) at the beginning than words at the end. It is also known that Google only weights around 84 characters as a weighted title and anything beyond that is treated as just part of the page. We know this from tests using the Google intitle syntax in searches. It is not known for sure if word counts include stop words or not so I prefer to use the 80-84 character range. Google Displays about 70 characters in the SERP result so the most important words should be in the first 60-70 characters, be coherent (don’t stuff with |’s and keywords) and hopefully include a Call to Action.

Meta description is important because this is the text that accompanies the Title (linked) in the SERPs. This description is your message to the user to get the user to click through to your website so make it a Compelling Call To Action! Mention the location primary products and services. The description should be about 160 characters in length and try to include phone numbers (especially on home page!!) because if it is a mobile search the phone numbers are clickable. If your character limit permits add your business address and postal / zip code.
Microdata information and syntax is available at Schema.org. I strongly recommend using structured data on your contact page and I always include full contact details in the footer of every page. I now recommend this information be marked up in structured data as well. Reviews, events, testimonials and more can be included in the SERP and these “Rich Snippets” always drive more clicks on your listing. The number of testimonials and ratings on your website affects the ranking. I strongly suggest a link from the home page to your testimonials page to maximize the link equity to the page and structured data it contains.

KML File: Add this file to your domain and get a bump in rankings! You can get info at

Match Your Name Address and Phone

Including the full contact information on every page adds local relevancy to that page and transparency builds trust with users that are potential customers. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to find contact information on a website you want to do business with.

Building Business with Google Analytics

Building Business with Google Analytics

Google Analytics is truly a great program that can help a business improve their marketing efforts. With advanced segmentation and vital information arranged in such a way for easy data mining, Google Analytics lead the way for today’s web analytics.

Most of the features in Google Analytics need to be explored in detail to yield the best utility. But at the same time, GA has put the most important data on the default dashboard and the user can customize their dashboard according to their preference.

Let’s take a walk around the Google Analytic Dashboard.

The biggest visual element in GA is the traffic graph and the site usage elements. By default you are shown site traffic for the past month. The importance of these features is understandable. This report can be easily exported as a PDF or an XML file or it can be e-mailed to a preferred email address as well. You can send the report to yourself or you can add more people to the thread.

There are several advanced segments that you can add to the traffic view. You can add up to 4 advanced segments from the drop down list. These are the options. (All visits are shown by default.)

  1. New Visitors

  2. Returning Visitors

  3. Paid Search Traffic

  4. Non-paid Search Traffic

  5. Search Traffic

  6. Direct Traffic

  7. Referral Traffic

  8. Visits with Conversions

  9. Mobile Traffic

  10. Non-bounce Visits

You can also create a new advanced segment or manage your advanced segments without much fuss. It’s pretty straight forward. Once created, you can test your advanced segment before you go ahead with it. So no worries about messing things up.

There are four independent elements that you can drag around and reposition. This helps you to determine and select the most important elements that you want to grab your attention first.

Have a closer look at Google Analytics elements when you visit the site again. You will notice that there are many things that you can do with Google Analytics. We’ll cover specific options in our forthcoming blog posts. Do keep in touch. This is going to be very interesting.

Website Security Tips

Website Security

Website Security

Unfortunately there are people on the web who would like to get rid of all of your work either because they think it is fun or because they want to spam your site to push some product that they want to advertise.

Website Security

A lot can happen to your site which includes someone accidentally deleting some of your files, your web hosting service can be down without you knowing it and much more. We will take a look at some of the ways you can identify when your website security has been compromised and then discuss how to remedy the situations.

WordPress Issues

Of course, you will have to know how to tell when something has gone wrong so that you can then get on with fixing the situation. Perhaps you, like many beginners are using WordPress since it’s very versatile and user-friendly. Most of the technical problems that arise with WordPress are due to plugin installation issues. For example, if your theme is not working as you wish, a recently installed plugin may be to blame. Check the status of all of your installed plugins and be sure to always update to the latest available version of WP. WordPress has a good troubleshooting system in place that walks you through most problems as well as having a forum available you can access to get help from experienced users. If your data is corrupted beyond repair, the only solution is to reload your data from your backup source. For this reason you should be sure to backup your database on a regular basis to avoid losing everything.

Web Hosting Issues

If you find that your site is unavailable for extended periods of time, get a hold of your hosting provider to see if they are having issues. If it is experiencing hardware failure for example and is having problems with just one component of the server, the entire server can be unavailable. All you can do in this case is wait for the hosting provider to fix the problem. Your site may be unavailable during peak internet usage hours or parts of the internet may simply be slow. Quite often, by the time you figure out why your site is unavailable, it will have somehow fixed itself.

Coding Issues

If you are seeing a blank space below your footers on some of your pages, the problem most likely is in your code. Some browsers will cause this to happen and may require a background color to be applied to the html. You can troubleshoot this problem by seeking the help of experts in coding forums online.

Housekeeping Issues

You may receive a comment on your site from a visitor telling you that your site is not visible to them because they are using the Google Chrome browser. The reason for this could be that Chrome detected code on your page that loads content from or redirects to a flagged site. To fix this, you will have to remove all links, iframes, etc to any blacklisted sites. You can also try using Google Webmaster Tools to determine whether or not malware is present.

If you are running a business online, you want to be sure that your site is available at all times so that you can always be found by those potential customers out there who are searching for your products and/or services. You can easily locate website security tips for businesses on the internet wherein you will be walked through steps necessary to solve site issues and problems you may be experiencing.

While all of this may seem overwhelming, the fact is that many things can go wrong with your site regardless of how careful and diligent you were when constructing it. A good way to avoid problems with your site is to use a website downtime program.

Twitter - Powerful Social Media

Twitter – Powerful Social Media

Twitter Social media

Twitter is one of the fastest growing social media tools. Loved by millions who use it for its simplicity and shortness, Twitter is a far more effective way to communicate with a peer group than Facebook or any other social media.

Twitter’s simplicity should not be underestimated, the real power is in harnessing ones followers

If a company were to try to reach an audience say of 6 million TV viewers, they’d have to spend some real money. Twitter is free. Unlike many other social media, Twitter is always on the go, things are constantly changing by the second.

The good news is that it is easily accessible. It’s supported by almost all the smart phones and almost any internet device, so keeping your followers up-to-date is easy.

In some cases, Tweeps, as the Twitter users are known, tend to think out loud through their tweets. In fact there are many well documented instances where brands, famous people, journalists, sports personalities among others found themselves saying things that they shouldn’t be saying in the first place. Therefore it is a good idea to read up on twitter etiquette and establish a companywide protocol for tweeting.

So how can a small company find its way in this tweet-maze? It’s not difficult to start, start with meaningful tweets about your industry. No one is going to care if you just picked up Starbucks for the day, so keep the personal stuff away. First it would help to have a good idea what Twitter is and how to use its many unique features. For example, Twitter hash tags and lists are two of the most important weapons in a good tweep’s armory.

Start off by following people in your industry. Always try to keep the Followers and Following ratio close to each other. It is sometimes suspect if someone is following 5000 people but only has 2 followers. Keep posting meaningful content and you’ll see your follower count rising on its own. Share things about your area of expertise; answer general questions on your field; follow hash tags which have a good focused following; (This however does not necessarily include the trending topics!) and be a good tweep in general.

There are a few tools you can use to increase your presence in the Twittersphere. Start with the Twitter business section. It can give you really nice pointers on what you can do on Twitter to promote your business effectively on Twitter. Read this case study on moxsie available on twitter business section.

Take some time off to think through your twitter strategy. It can help you a lot with taking your brand to the next level of online visibility.

How to Blog

How to Blog

how to blog

Writing a blog post is one of the most painful things that a small business holder might have to do during their already limited work time. But in the current context small businesses rely heavily on their online presence and on SEO for being visible, blogging becomes an essential tool for staying ahead of the competition.

But with limited time being utilized for different things, how can somebody write a blog post?

Well the trick is simpler than you think! Are we talking about hiring somebody to write the Content ? Absolutely not. writers don’t share the same passion as you do about your business. Writing something on your own is something that can give you immense satisfaction and it can also be a good way for you to identify weaknesses of your business and marketing approach.

The ideal length of a blog post is about 400-500 words. If you are wondering, this post is already 180 words long. One thing that can help you with blog post writing is writing about something you are passionate about. Take me for example. I specialize in Search Engine Optimization and whatever I write about it comes to me naturally.

Don’t try to write about really complex matters in a blog post. A blog is hardly the best place for something like that. If you have a great subject topic, break it down to manageable bits. You’ll find it easy to write, you are going to find more topics to write about and your audience will love you for an easy to read and easy to remember post.

Try to make your blog posts interesting and to the point. It is always a good idea to try to engage your audience in the first paragraph and build your case from that point on. If you know anything about the inverted pyramid model of news reporting, I’m talking about that.

Also, use a couple of images that you might get for free.

Another important thing you can do is linking back to your older posts. This works for you in several ways.

You give value to blog posts that you’ve written already and get an opportunity to re-index them.

Gives you an opportunity to direct viewers to your old posts that could be related in subject matter and beneficial to the reader.

So these are a few things that you can try when you are confronted with writing something for your blog. So share your experiences with the world.

Sub-Domain Advantages

Sub-Domain Advantages

Sub-Domain Advantages

Generall a domain look like the following: www.yourdomain.com. Each domain name refers to a specific site on the web and the search engines acknowledge each domain name as a separate entity.

The latest trend is to buy a new domain name for each new niche or category you want to publish on web. But there is a alternative method for this.

A subdomain is actually a sub extension of your already working domain. Another point to remember – a subdomain is considered to be a separate domain and entity from the domain that it extends from. This means that all search engines (including Google) see the subdomain as a unique domain.

search engines recognize each web page as a separate entity. Subdomains are created usually using your web hosting control panel. The entire process takes only a few minutes. For instance, instead of adding web pages that are on completely different topics to your website such as www.yourdomain.com/cricket, you just create a subdomain, which is written as follows: www.cricket.yourdomain.com. Notice all we did is add the word “cricket” and a dot before the domain name.

Advantages of a Subdomains

I.Subdomains are extremely easy to create. In fact, so easy most people over-complicate the entire subdomain creation process. You do not need a lot of technical expertise the process is quite simple and straightforward. .

II.Subdomain is considered to be a separate domain and entity from the domain that it extends from. Thismeans that all search engines (including Google) see the subdomain as a unique domain.

III.You get all the benefits of having a keyword rich web site, without the costs and hassles of registering new domain and hosting them separately

IV.Many webmasters purchase 100 or more domains to create web sites so that each site bring in a small amount of income. Having 100 domains can easily cost $1,000 per year and once you add in the domain hosting costs and annual renewal fees, you can see how quickly it will become expensive. But on the other hand, subdomains cost $0. Subdomains are free to create, whether you have 1 or  1,000 subject to the hosting package limitations.

Domain DNS Blacklist

What is a Domain DNS Blacklist?

domain black list

A DNSBL, or a domain name server – based blacklist, DNS block list or domain blacklist is a list of IP addresses referenced by DNS server software to check if an email sender is a known spammer. Most mail servers will check DNSBLs to see if the sender’s domain name is associated with spammers, and occasionally if any of the links contained in the email are spam links. While DNSBLs can be a powerful tool for stemming the flow of spam, there are occasional false positives that result in legitimate email being flagged as spam and rejected by mail servers. The domain blacklist lookup tool lets you input a domain to see if it’s listed on any domain blacklists. This tool checks a number of the most commonly referenced DSBLs to see if the domain has been marked as a source of spam. This checks the host address against domain DNSBLs and also resolves DNS MX and A records and checks them against IP-based DNSBLs.

There are a number of reasons you may be included on a DNBSL, even if you’re not a spammer. For example, if your email account was hacked, or if your computer was exploited by a spammer virus, your IP address could be added to a DNSBL. This can prevent you from using your home computer or a personal web server from sending email.

Also, “spam – support operations” are also included in some DNSBLs. Spam support operations are sites that don’t directly send spam, but may provide services to spammers, such as web hosting. This can be problematic if spammers share the same web server (and thus the same IP address) as legitimate users. It’s possible that IP addresses and domains that are common to the spammer’s web server can also be improperly marked as spam.

If the domain blacklist check determines that you’ve been listed on any of the major DNSBLs, you can usually get yourself removed by contacting the DNSBL operator. Sometimes, this is a simple as filling out a form or sending a request. Other times, you may have to pay a fee, or meet certain criteria to prove that you are not a spammer.

At any rate, it’s helpful to know if you are listed on any blacklists. While not all mail servers filter according to all DNSBLs, it can explain why some of your emails are not reaching recipients.

Domain DNS Blacklist
